Section 144 lifted in Rangamati

Section 144, imposed in the wake of bloody clashes between hill people and Bengali communities, has been lifted in Rangamati after two days.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Mosharraf Hossain Khan withdrew the restriction through a notification around 11:00 am on Sunday.

The notification said, “As the law and order situation has normalised, the deputy commissioner and district magistrate of Rangamati Hill District hereby lift Section 144 from 11:00 am on Sunday.”

Although the district administration has lifted the Section 144 restrictions, leaders of the Rangamati Transport Owners' Association said that the ongoing transport strike will continue.

Earlier, the district administrations imposed Section 144 in Rangamati Municipality and Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila as violence escalated in the region following sporadic clashes that claimed three lives.
