Former Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Co-operatives (LGRD), Mohammad Amjad Hossain, and his son were arrested by joint forces during a raid at their residence in Uttara, Dhaka, on Sunday (Nov 3) night.
During the operation at their Sector-11 house, the authorities seized cash amounting to Tk 1 crore and 9.5 lakh, various foreign currencies, 11 iPhones, and several branded watches.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, the duty officer at Uttara West Police Station, confirmed the arrests on Monday morning.
According to him, acting on a tip-off, the joint forces conducted the raid at House No. 33 around 10 p.m. on Sunday.
The operation, which lasted four hours, led to the seizure of the cash, iPhones, and other items, as well as the arrest of the former government official and his son, he added.
Mohammad Amjad Hossain retired from his position as Additional Secretary of the LGRD ministry in 2020.
