Four remanded over Muntaha murder in Sylhet

A Sylhet court today (Nov 11) placed four people on a five-day remand each in connection with the murder of six-year-old Muntaha Akter Jerin.

Sylhet Judicial Magistrate Kazi Md Abu Zaher Badal approved the remand after police requested seven days to interrogate the suspects, according to court inspector Jamshed Alam.

The arrestees were identified as Alifjan, 55, wife of Moyna Mia; her daughter Shamima Begum Marzia, 25, who was also Muntaha's tutor; Islam Uddin, 40; and Nazma Begum, 35.

Muntaha, the daughter of Shamim Ahmed from Bharafoud village in Birdal union of Kanaighat upazila, had been missing for eight days. Her body was discovered on Sunday in Kanaighat upazila. Police reported finding injuries on her body and that her throat was tied with ropes.

A total of four suspects were arrested in connection with her death.
