Hallmark chairman Jasmine's bail hearing adjourned for 3 months

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court adjourned for three months the hearing on the bail appeal of Hallmark Group chairman Jasmine Islam in a case lodged over embezzlement of Tk 85.8 crore from Janata Bank through fake letter of credit (LC).

The Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, issued the order on Thursday (November 28) in the case.

Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal represented the petitioner, while Lawyer Md. Asif Hasan appeared on behalf of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Earlier, the High Court had dismissed the rule regarding Jasmine Islam’s bail, issued on August 30, 2022.

Following the High Court's decision, Jasmine Islam appealed to the Appellate Division, seeking bail in the case.

According to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) lawyer, the High Court Division initially granted bail on March 10, 2019, in the case. The ACC subsequently appealed to the Appellate Division challenging the order.

On June 16, 2019, the Appellate Division canceled the bail and directed the accused to surrender within four weeks.

The accused later complied and surrendered. Upon applying for bail again, the High Court issued a rule. However, after hearing the matter, the High Court dismissed the rule on August 30, 2022.
