Suspended magistrate Taposhi Tabassum Urmi granted bail

A Dhaka court today (Nov 28) granted bail to suspended Assistant Commissioner of Lalmonirhat District Administrator’s office Taposhi Tabassum Urmi.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Emran granted Urmi’s bail in a Tk 500 bond after she surrendered before the court through a lawyer.

However, plaintiff's lawyer Khademul Islam opposed this bail requesting the court, but after the hearing, the court granted her bail.

On October 8, Abu Hanif, a member of the Gono Odhikar Parishad’s higher council and media coordinator, filed a case against Taposhi Tabassum Urmi for defamation.

Later, on November 28 was summoned to appear before the court.

The case statement stated that, on October 5, Urmi wrote derogatory comments on Facebook not only against Shaheed Abu Sayeed, but also against the government established through the student-mass movement and the head of government, Nobel laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, despite holding a responsible position in the government.
