Two withdraw names from freedom fighter list

Two people have applied for withdrawal of their names from the freedom fighters list in response to an appeal by the advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs.

The ministry confirmed receiving written applications from one person in Munshiganj and another in Rajbari, both of whom admitted they were not freedom fighters.

According to the ministry, the applicants said they had only received allowances and no other benefits. The ministry considers this step positive and has encouraged others in similar situations to come forward voluntarily.

Ishrat Chowdhury, Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, told Banglanews, "They admitted their mistake and expressed regret for taking benefits as freedom fighters despite not being one. They apologized to the nation and sought forgiveness."

One of the applicants mentioned being moved by the adviser's call and willingly applied to cancel their gazette and certificate, apologizing to freedom fighters and the nation. The other applicant requested withdrawal from the civilian gazette and "Lal Muktibarta" list, seeking indemnity.

On December 11, during a press conference at the ministry, Faruq-e-Azam Bir Protik, advisor to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, had urged fake freedom fighters to voluntarily admit their status and promised general amnesty for those who come forward.

He said, "If they voluntarily withdraw, they might be granted amnesty. Otherwise, we will take action against those involved in such fraud."
