Interim government adviser Mahfuz Alam said that India has reportedly made a political decision not to repatriate ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He shared this information during a dialogue titled “Building a New Bangladesh: Reforms and Foreign Policy,” organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday (Dec 29).
Responding to a query, Mahfuz Alam said, “We are hearing that they (India) have decided not to send her (Sheikh Hasina) back.”
He at this time emphasized the need for pragmatic decision-making to ensure Bangladesh's sovereignty, national security, and territorial integrity, while avoiding abrupt policy shifts regardless of changes in government.
The dialogue was attended by Information Adviser Nahid Islam, Foreign Secretary M. Jasim Uddin, and diplomats from the Foreign Ministry.
