Two people were killed in a collision between a bus and a truck on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway near Pulia in Bhanga upazila early Wednesday (Jan 1). 

The accident happened around 4:30 am.

The deceased were identified as Nurul Alam, 26, son of Ayub Ali from Bachamara in Shibchar upazila, and his assistant, Abdur Kader Mia, son of Rafiqul Malitha from Tetulbaria in Jhenaidah.

According to Shibchar Highway Police, the truck and the bus collided head-on, critically injuring the truck driver and his assistant. Both were rushed to Shibchar Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

Sub-Inspector Tamal of Shibchar Highway Police confirmed the matter.

He said their night patrol team rescued the injured and sent them to the hospital. 

The vehicles involved in the accident are currently in police custody, and legal procedures are underway, he added.
