Three teenage cousins drowned in the Brahmaputra River in Jamalpur on Sunday (December 29) afternoon.
The incident occurred around 3 pm in the Chanakanda area of the district town.
The victims were identified as Afif, 15, a ninth-grader at Jamalpur Zilla School, Rahi, 16, a tenth-grader at the same school, and Rowshan, 15, a ninth-grader at Dhaka's Preparatory School.
According to family members, Rowshan had come to visit his maternal grandparents during the school holidays. On Sunday afternoon, he went to play football by the riverbank with his two cousins and local friends. After the game, they went for a swim but five of them started drowning. Locals managed to rescue two boys alive, but three remained missing.
Siddiqur Rahman, station leader of Jamalpur Fire Service, confirmed the matter and said the bodies were handed over to the families.
