The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has intensified its anti-polythene drive to eliminate the production, marketing, and use of polythene bags.
As part of the effort, monitoring teams are visiting markets and malls across the country.
A team led by Tapan Kumar Biswas, Additional Secretary, visited Hatirpool and Palashi markets in Dhaka today and urged traders and shoppers to use jute and fabric bags instead of polythene.
Since the launch of the drive on November 3, 2024, 216 mobile courts have been conducted, resulting in fines of Tk 28.73 lakh and the seizure of 59,959 kg of polythene.
Biswas urged the public to use reusable bags and emphasized the increased number of mobile courts to enforce the ban. Law enforcement and market representatives also participated in the drive.
