1,911 case files go missing from Chattogram court premises

A total of 1,911 case files have reportedly disappeared from the public prosecutor's office at the Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court.

Public Prosecutor Mafizul Haque Bhuiyan lodged a general diary (GD) with the Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram city on Sunday night, reporting the loss of 1,911 case documents, according to Officer-in-Charge Md Abdul Karim, who spoke to The Daily Sun.

Mafizul Haque said the files had been stored on a verandah outside the government lawyer's office due to a lack of storage space inside.

The documents, wrapped in polythene, were placed near the entrance to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s courtroom, he added, adding the documents were lost between December 13 and December 31 as the office was closed during the court's vacation.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Karim confirmed about the GD filed with the police station regarding the loss of 1,911 case documents kept in front of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court.

An investigation into the GD has been initiated, he added.
