Paturia-Daulatdia, Aricha-Kazirhat ferry services suspended

The ferry movement in between Paturia-Daulatdia and Aricha-Kazirhat routes have been suspended due to dense fog, according to Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia Ghat.

Three ferries—Khan Jahan Ali, Birshreshtha Jahangir, and Baigar—are stranded mid-river, while around 300 vehicles, primarily cargo trucks, are queued at the four river ghats awaiting their turn to cross.

According to BIWTC, fog began intensifying after sunset along the Aricha-Kazirhat route. By 11:30 pm, visibility had dropped significantly as the dense fog enveloped the waterways, obscuring beacon lights and forcing a halt to ferry operations to prevent accidents.

At the time, the Khan Jahan Ali Ro-Ro ferry, loaded with passengers and vehicles, became stuck mid-river. Additionally, three ferries—Chitra, Krishani, and Shah Ali—are stranded at the Aricha terminal, while Dhanshiri remains docked at the Kazirhat terminal.

Around 1 am, ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route were also suspended. Two ferries—Birshreshtha Jahangir and Baigar—are currently stranded mid-river, while eight ferries in total are stuck at the Paturia and Daulatdia terminals.

The suspension has left around 250 vehicles, including cargo trucks, private cars, and microbuses, waiting at both terminals for clearance.
