CID gets 61 more days to probe Ctg arms haul

 

CHITTAGONG: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday got 61 more days to submit its probe report on the sensational 10-truck arms haul case in the port city.

Chittagong Metropolitan Sessions Judge (Acting) Enamul Haque Bhuiyan Sunday asked the CID to submit the report by September 26 after the investigation officer (IO) in the case Moniruzzaman submitted a petition seeking three more months for further investigation.

Moniruzzaman later told newsmen that more investigations are needed to submit a flawless report on the case.

Kamal Uddin, state counsel and public prosecutor told banglanews24.com.bd that, with this the time was extended for the ninth time.

Earlier on 23 May, city session judges’ court extended the time for 62 days.

Earlier on April 1 2004, the law enforcers seized 10 truckloads of weapons and ammunition from the CUFL jetty of Chittagong Urea Fertiliser Limited (CUFL).

Later on February 12 2008, the court ordered CID to investigate the sensational case after the charge sheet was submitted.

Government high officials including two former directors general of the National Security Intelligence Rezzakul Haider Chowdhury and Abdur Rahim and navy officers were arrested for their alleged involvement in the incident.
