RAJSHAHI: The local administration Monday imposed section 144 in Puthia upazila to avert a possible clash between rival Awami League and BNP activists as they called meetings at the same place and same time over the killing of Chhatra Dal leader Ataur Rahman Nuh.

Puthia thana OC Ziaul Alam told banglanews24.com.bd that tension mounted in the upazila as local BNP and Awami League called simultaneous meetings at Biraldah College ground at 10 am Monday to blame and counter-blame each other for the killing of the student leader.

“Under the circumstances, the upazila administration clamped down the ban in and around the college campus from 6 am to 12 midnight Monday to disengage the political archrivals,” said an official source.

A gang of terrorists slaughtered Baneswar UP unit JCD leader Ataur Rahman Nuh near Maipara Masjid at Biraldah bazaar last Thursday.

The opposition BNP is blaming the local ruling-party activists for the murder while the AL is recoiling the charge saying that it was an outcome of internal conflicts.
