UP elections in November: Nanak

DHAKA: Overdue union parishad (UP) elections would be held this coming November, State Minister for LGRD Jahangir Kabir Nanak said Monday.

He disclosed the government decision about the tentative timings of the UP polls while talking to journalists after addressing the third session of DCs’ conference where LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam was present as chief guest.

He said,\\\\\\\" We have highly appreciated the proposal of Deputy Commissioners for holding courtyard meeting from district to village levels.\\\\\\\"

The state minister also said the government would solve as soon as possible the problems raised by the Deputy Commissioners, such as infrastructure shortages in UPs, problems with one-house, one-farm project.

Sources said the meeting also discussed, among other things, recruitment of UP Secretary, Employee’s Service Rule, and reform of rural infrastructures.
