DHAKA: Bangladesh Tuesday sought financial and technical assistance from the donors for capacity building first to go by the Intellectual Property Act, as the country is now struggling to provide people with their bare necessities.

“We’re now working with the fundamental issues like food security and education. It will create additional pressure on us if we have to follow the Intellectual Property Act right now,” Commerce Minister Faruk Khan told his audience at a seminar here.

The Ministry of Commerce and the World trade Organisation (WTO) jointly organized the seminar at a city hotel, at a time when the developed world is much concerned about and campaigning for protection of intellectual property.

He viewed that the capacity could be increased through the exchange of knowledge and know-how.

WTO Director Antony Taubaman was the special guest at the seminar. Representatives of the WTO member-countries were present.
