KURIGRAM: Erosion has intensified in different areas of Sadar upazila due to onrush of hill waters across the border and incessant rain for last few days.

Nankar Haor village of Bhogdanga union in Sadar upazila was devoured by the swelling River Dharala on Friday as erosion caused by the strong current took a serious turn.

About 150-meter stretch of the 750 meter revetment of the Water Development Board collapsed at Char Baraibari, said a WDB source.

Besides, erosion by the rivers Dharla, Brahmaputra, Dudhkumor and Sonabhori rivers rendered some 187 families of 24 villages in four upazilas homeless in last 72 hours till Friday afternoon.

Islamia Dakhil Madrassah has been shifted to a safer place.

According to the WDB, water level of Dharla rose by 1.10 meter while Brahmaputra by 70 cm and Teesta by 76 cm in last 72 hours till Friday.

Executive Engineer of Kurigram WDB Rezaul Mostafa Asafaddoula told banglanews24.com.bd emergency measures could not be taken due to lack of fund.
