Bus driver charged with killing 2 secretaries in road accident

SAVAR: The driver of the killer bus that killed two government secretaries in Manikganj accident was Friday charged with murder of the senior officers.

Investigating officer of the case of mishap Nurul Islam Bhuiyan submitted charge-sheet with the senior judicial magistrate court of Manikganj accusing the driver, Anwar Hossain, of murder.

On July 31 his bus of Druti Paribahan rammed into a Pajero Jeep carrying the two secretaries to Gopalganj function of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, killing them instantly.

The deceased were Women and Children Affairs ministry secretary Razia Begum and BSCIC Chairman (additional secretary) Siddiqur Rahman.

In the investigation it was found that the driver was carrying a fake driving license, meaning he had no formal training for driving transport, it was stated in the charge-sheet. He also furnished fictitious address to the transport company in taking his appointment.

“The bus driver staged the accident with the motive of murder”, said Rafiqul Islam, Sub-Inspector of Barangail Highway Police Station, with which the case was filed after the accident on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway.
