13 die drinking toxic local liquors in Sylhet

SYLHET: Thirteen people died in an alcoholic catastrophe after drinking fermented liquors in Balaganj upazila till Saturday morning, says a latest report.

Local sources said a group of 14/15 people took local liquor at a house of Goabazar under Osmani Nagar Thana on Wednesday night and started falling sick Thursday.

They were rushed into Sylhet Osmani Medical Collage Hospital (SOMCH) and other clinics where they died one after another.

The dead are Jhantu Dev, Haripada Dev, Zinu Mia, Khayesh Mia, Surab Ali, Shafiq Mia, Maqbul Ali, Shanu Mia, Kanu Chandra, Ghoyesh Mia, Faruq Mia and Chitta Ranjan Das.
 
An on-duty doctor of SOMCH told banglanews24.com.bd, “Initially, it seems that they died from food poisoning. We can confirm everything after getting autopsy reports.”

Officer-in-charge of Osmani Nagar police station Nirmal Bhattacharya said no one filed complaints in this connection yet.
