Mufti Hannan on 2 daysÔÇÖ remand in Bagerhat bomb attack case

BAGERHAT: A court here on Sunday granted a  two-day remand for Mufti Hannan, chief of banned Islamist outfit Harkatul Jihad (Huji), for quizzing him in Bagerhat bomb attack case.

Bagerhat Judicial Magistrate M Nur Nabi passed the order as the investigating officer of the case produced him before the court with seven days’ remand plea.

Mufti Hannan was shown arrested in the case on April 7.

Investigating officer Sukuranjan Samaddar, also ASP of CID Khulna division, said Hannan was taken on a two-day remand as the involement of militants in the attack has been proved after the initial investigation.

Nine people were killed and over 50 injured in a bomb explosion at the election rally of Sheikh Helal at Khalilur Rahman College ground in Mollarhat upazila on September 23, 2001.

Upazila AL president Chowdhury Ziaul Islam Panna filed a case on the next day accusing 164 people.

The case was repealed on January 29, 2004 during the BNP-Jamaat regime.
But, the present government revived the case.
