DHAKA: The Environment and Forest Ministry has taken decision in principle to provide cent percent family ration for its staffs who are working in the remote hilly areas.

The decision was taken in the wake of demand made by officials and workers of the department.

If implemented, it will cost the government exchequer Tk 2.5 crore a year.

The Environment Ministry will soon send a synopsis of the proposal for Prime Minister’s approval to include the proposed rationing in the list of Food and Disaster Management Ministry.

The government provides family rationing to officials and employees of different other bodies.

The Ministry also proposed a 30 percent risk allowance for staffs working in the remote hills.

Around 10 thousand officials and employees are working in the remote hilly areas of the country’s 1.52 million hectres land.

In the last 10 years, 14 forest workers were killed in Sundarbans alone by wild animals, pirates and hooligans.
