Nation recovers losses from Martial Laws through the verdict: SMI

DHAKA: Syed Manjurul Islam, an English Professor of Dhaka University, hailed the High Court verdict on the 7th amendment as a historic one as he said it would help the nation make up for the damage done due to martial laws.

In an instant reaction after the verdict Syed Manjur told banglanews24.com.bd that the power campture by all martial law asministrators, including Ershad, proved illegal.

He said, “Through the verdict transparency in the judiciary has been affirmed. This verdict will bar people from doing anything with the state mechanism at their sweet will.”

“Accontability will also be established through the process,” said Professor Manjur.

He said, “The losses Bangladesh incurred during several Mirtial Law administerations would be minimized through the decision of the High Court.”

He added: “In future nobody will go unpunished if they capture power in an illegal way.”
