Governor of ChinaÔÇÖs Yunnan Province arrives

DHAKA: The Governor of Yunnan province in China, Qin Guan Grong, arrived here Sunday on a two-day official visit for consultation with Bangladesh leaders on ways of strengthening bilateral ties, including establishing cross-border communications networks.

Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain and PM`s Principal Secretary Abdul Karim received him at Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport at about 9am.

Qin Guan Grong, who is leading a 18-member-strong delegation, went to the PM Office direct from the airport to meet her.

The Governor will have a formal meeting with the Communications Minister  at 7pm Sunday.  

He is also likely to meet with Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister GM Kader and Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury.

DG (External Publicity) of the Foreign Ministry Syeda Muna Tasnim told banglanews24.com.bd that issue of direct road and rail links between Bangladesh and Kunming in Chaina’s southwest would get “the highest priority” in the visit.

Muna Tasnim also informed that Bangladesh and China agreed on cross-border road and rail communications between Kunming and Chittagong during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s China visit last March. Next course of action in this regard will come up for discussion during the tour of the governor of Yunnan Province.

"Besides, matters related to cooperation in education, agriculture, power and tourism sectors with Yunnan Province will be discussed," she said.
A Foreign Ministry source informed that a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is likely to be signed covering matters of providing scholarships to Bangladeshi students, holding tourism fair and making friendship declaration.  
The Yunnan Governor will leave Dhaka Monday, concluding his busy mission.
