DHAKA: Newly appointed Inspector-General of Police Hasan Mahmmud Khandaker Sunday ordered the police forces not to behave rudely with the commoners, indicating a change in the traditional mindset under his stewardship.

“Police forces are not beyond criticism and faults. We have to build up a mentality of serving people. We shouldn’t behave rudely with the common man—we’ve to show courtesy to them,” said the IGP, who was the chief of the awe-inspiring elite-force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).    

The new police chief spelt out the instructions at a meeting with the top officials of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) at Rajarbag Police Lines auditorium.  

The IGP said the trial of the war criminals is on and some militant groups are active to create anarchy across the country.

“Police forces have to remain alert so that none can make any unstable situation in the country taking advantage of the situation,” he added.  

DMP Commissioner AKM Sahidul Haque briefed the new IGP about the recent activities of police and present sensational cases they are handling.

Residential and transport crises of the police force were also discussed in the meeting.

Additional DMP Commissioner Meer Shahidul Islam and Joint Commissioner Amulya Bhushan Barua, among others, attended the meeting.
