The interim government has constituted a six-member search committee led by Appellate Division Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury to recommend names for the new Election Commission (EC).
A gazette notification was issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday (Oct 31) in this regard.
The committee has been tasked with proposing two names for each position, including the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners, as outlined in the notification.
The committee members include Justice AKM Asaduzzaman of the High Court Division, Comptroller and Auditor General Md. Nurul Islam, Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Mobassher Monem, former Dhaka University professor of International Relations Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, and former PSC Chairman Professor Jinnatun Nessa Tahmida Begum.
This initiative marks a significant step toward establishing a new Election Commission ahead of the upcoming national elections.
