Four BGB platoons deployed after fatal Tabligh Jamaat clash

Four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to the Biswa Ijtema ground in Tongi following a clash between rival Tabligh Jamaat factions that left three dead and over 100 injured early Wednesday (Dec 18).

BGB Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam confirmed the deployment of the additional security forces on Wednesday (Dec 18) morning. The clash took place at approximately 3:00 AM on December 17 between the Maulana Zubair faction and the Maulana Saad faction, both vying for control of the Ijtema ground, a major site for religious gatherings.

The Saad faction has since claimed control of the ground, with video statements circulating that assert their dominance over the site.

The victims of the violence include Bachchu Mia, 70, from Egarasindu in Pakundia Thana, Kishoreganj, and Belal, 60, from Beraid in South Khan, Dhaka. The identity of the third deceased remains unconfirmed.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and efforts are underway to ensure that the situation is brought under control in the wake of the unrest.
