Dhaka: Muggers stabbed to death a vegetable trader as he tried to resist them from robbing him in Bijoy Sarani area in the capital early Thursday while going home after buying vegetables for his day’s small trade.

Kafrul police said Monir Hossain went to Karwanbazar business hub to buy vegetables. The gang waylaid him on the opposite side of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Novo Theatre while returning to his Mirpur home and tried to hijack the vegetable-laden van at 1:00am.

“As he resisted, the muggers stabbed him in his hand, chest and belly,” police said.

Locals rescued him in critical condition and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died at 3:30am.

A case was filed with Kafrul Thana in this connection.
