DHAKA: A Dhaka court Saturday placed Saikat alias Babu on a four-day remand in a case filed against him for throwing grenade on Gendaria police patrols.

Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court granted the remand as investigating officer (IO) of the case SI Ashraful Islam prayed for 10 days time to interrogate the accused.

Court sources said police on suspicion had asked to stop a rickshaw, carrying Saikat and one of his associates, near Dayaganj check-post on Friday afternoon.

But the two hurled grenade on the cops and fled the scene. Later, police arrested injured Saikat along with a handmade grenade like Arzes grenade, bombs and bomb-and grenade-making materials.

Later, SI Kawsar Ali of Gendaria Thana filed a case with the police station under the Explosives Act.

The IO, in his petition, said, “Saikat should be interrogated extensively for recovering explosives from the possession of his other associates, so remand is an imperative.”
