The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today (January 2) rejected a leave-to-appeal filed by Awami League nominated candidate Shammi Ahmed seeking reinstatement of her candidacy for Barishal-4 constituency in the 12th parliamentary election, scheduled to be held on January 7.
A bench of the Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order on Tuesday.
As a result, Shammi Ahmed would not have the opportunity to contest the upcoming Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election.
Earlier on December 19, the chamber judge of the Appellate Division upheld a High Court order that rejected a writ petition filed by Shammi Ahmed challenging the cancellation of her candidature.
The Election Commission also turned down her appeal against the cancellation of her candidacy by the returning officer on December 15.
