Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman said that national unity, dignity, and maintaining equal relationships on the international stage are essential.
He made the remark during a workers' rally at the NS Government College grounds in Natore on Friday (Jan 3).
"We want foreign friends, not masters," he said, adding that these relationships must be based on mutual respect and equality.
He said that Bangladesh must remain sovereign and independent, and no one should dare conspire against the country.
Dr. Shafiqur condemned existing social disparities, envisioning a future Bangladesh free from inequality, built on humanity and justice. "Achieving this requires united efforts and relentless struggle,"
He said, urging everyone to work toward creating a nation where citizens enjoy true freedom and justice.
The Jamaat Ameer also addressed misconceptions about his party, refuting claims that an Islamic government would restrict women's rights.
He said, "We dream of a Bangladesh where both men and women work equally, with women receiving their rightful respect and responsibilities."
Shafiqur Rahman criticized alleged electoral irregularities, claiming past elections were marred by manipulation and lacked fairness.
In his speech, Dr. Shafiqur highlighted Natore’s lack of educational institutions, demanding the establishment of at least one medical college, university, or engineering institute in the district.
The rally, chaired by Natore Jamaat Ameer Mir Nurul Islam and attended by thousands of supporters, turned into a massive gathering with participants marching from various areas. Special guests included Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan and central executive committee member Principal Md. Shahabuddin.
