No election before Awami League faces trial: Umama Fatema Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka

Umama Fatema, the spokesperson for the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has warned that no election will take place before trial of the Awami League.

She made the remark on Tuesday (Dec 31) during the "March for Unity" rally organized by the movement at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.

Fatema said that the government has taken steps to announce a proclamation, they will not delay further on the matter.

She emphasized that no elections would occur until justice is served for those affected by the July movement. She also mentioned that the spirit of July remains strong, and they would not allow the struggles of 1971 and 1990 to fail.

The program began at 4 p.m. with a one-minute silence to honor those martyred in the July popular uprising. Afterward, Shahriar Hasan Alvi’s father, Abul Hasan, shared memories of his son, who had died during the protests.

The event was attended by central coordinators and members of various organizations from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
