DG confirms existence of 'Aynaghor' in RAB

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General (DG) Additional Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidur Rahman has acknowledged the existence of its “Aynaghor" (where people were held illegally and tortured).

"Aynaghor remains as it was, under the directives of the relevant reform commission,' he said.

He disclosed this during a press conference held at the RAB Media Center in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, on Thursday (December 12).

This statement marks a departure from his earlier claim on October 7, when he denied the existence of 'Aynaghor' within RAB.

The DG also addressed various allegations against RAB, including accusations related to the mirror room, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings.

"The commission is investigating all allegations against RAB, including those concerning the Aynaghor, disappearances, and murders. RAB is extending full cooperation to the commission, and we trust that appropriate legal actions will follow based on the findings," he added.

Shahidur Rahman clarified that the commission has directed RAB to maintain the Aynaghor and all other facilities in their current state for investigative purposes.

"We have neither altered nor enhanced anything. Everything remains exactly as it was," he also said.

The DG assured that steps for RAB reform would be taken based on feedback from the media and public opinion, reaffirming RAB's commitment to accountability and improvement.
