Nation to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day Saturday 

The nation is set to observe Martyred Intellectuals Day on Saturday (December 14), honoring the memory of the intellectuals who were mercilessly killed by Pakistan's occupation forces and their local collaborators during the final days of the Liberation War in 1971.

According to an official announcement, extensive programs have been planned to commemorate the day.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus will pay their respects by placing wreaths at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur at 7:05 a.m. and 7:06 a.m., respectively. The events will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television and other private channels.

Later in the morning, families of the victims, along with veteran and wounded freedom fighters led by Liberation War Affairs Adviser Farooq-e-Azam, will offer tributes at the Martyred Intellectuals Memorial at 7:22 a.m. and the Rayer Bazar Killing Ground (Baddhobhumi) at 8:30 a.m.

Starting from 8:30 a.m., individuals from all walks of life, as well as representatives from various political and social organizations, will also place floral tributes at the memorial, the release noted.

On the eve of Martyred Intellectuals Day, both President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus will issue separate statements reflecting on the solemn occasion.

Additionally, discussion meetings emphasizing the importance of the day will be organized at the district and upazila levels.
 
Special munajat and prayers will also be held at all the mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, and other worship places.
