Police deployed sound grenades and a water cannon to disperse protesting Ebtedayee teachers in front of Shahbagh Police Station on Sunday afternoon.

Police reportedly restricted teachers when they tried to break through makeshift police barricades at Shahbagh during a march towards the Chief Adviser’s office around 12:40 pm.

The Independent Ebtedayee Madrasah Teachers Union gathered at the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday morning, demanding nationalization of their jobs, among other six-point demands, based on recommendations from Dhaka University's Education and Research Institute.

As they marched towards the Chief Adviser’s office to submit a memorandum, police intervened near Shahbagh Police Station, using force to break up the procession.

The situation remains tense, with law enforcers and protesters still facing off at the scene.
