Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin emphasized today that all necessary preparations for the national elections must be completed by October to ensure the polls can take place in December.
Speaking at a function organized by the Reporters Forum for Election and Democracy (RFED) at Nirbachon Bhaban, he highlighted key tasks such as the reformation of legal frameworks, new political party registration, and the delimitation of electoral boundaries.
“We must have the election schedule ready by October to hold elections in December,” said Nasir Uddin, adding that preparations were already underway, including updating the voter list and reforming electoral laws.
He also expressed hope that the election would be held in a festive atmosphere, as indicated by the chief adviser.
The CEC also addressed concerns over proposed reforms that would reduce the Election Commission’s powers, particularly regarding its authority over voter lists and boundary delimitation.
He opposed any move to place these tasks under the supervision of a parliamentary standing committee, stressing the EC’s independence in these matters.
