Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken all necessary security measures to ensure a safe Christmas celebration, said Additional Commissioner (Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime) Md Masud Karim.
Christmas, the main festival of Christians, will be celebrated on Wednesday.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday (Dec 24) after inspecting a security drill at St. Mary’s Cathedral Church in Kakrail, Masud Karim said that sufficient police personnel, both in uniform and plainclothes, have been deployed at every church in the city. Specialized units, including SWAT and the Bomb Disposal Team, will also be on duty, with support from the army at the field level to ensure a joyful celebration.
Responding to questions about security risks, the additional commissioner said that there is no specific threat at present.
“We remain extremely cautious, and like every year, Christmas will be celebrated peacefully and joyfully,” he added.
