Panchagarh: Opposition Chief Whip Jainul Abdin Farroque Sunday secured bail in a defamation suit filed against him with a court in this northern-most district of the country.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Md. Jafrul Hasan granted the bail when he stood in the dock at noon and prayed for bail through his lawyers.

General Secretary of district Krishak League Md. Amirul Islam filed the case against the Opposition Chief Whip with the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on March 16 for making ‘false’ statement against Sajib Wajed Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The court had ordered the Sadar thana officer-in-charge to submit report by April 19 after investigating the case. Following the submission of the report, the Chief Judicial Magistrate issued arrest warrant against Farroque on May 19.

A big band of about 50 lawyers stood for the leading opposition lawmaker during the hearing in a crowded court.
